Blue hour settles over LaSalle Street as Ceres stands watch above the Chicago Board of Trade, flanked by the colonnaded facade of Wintrust — formerly Bank of America — and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Not a car or a pedestrian breaks the symmetry, just the lit clock, glowing windows, and yellow lane lines drawing the eye straight down Chicago's own Wall Street.
I made this photograph from the middle of LaSalle Street, in front of the Rookery between Adams and Quincy, stepping into a gap in traffic just before evening rush hour in November. The soft violet and rose sky pairs naturally with warm wood or deep navy interiors, and because the composition is centered and vertical, it holds its own as a bold panoramic statement or a tall, narrow print for a stairwell or hall.
