The Louvre Gallery
The Louvre · Paris
This moody Louvre gate print brings the scale and history of the museum into view. The contrast between the historic stone and the glass pyramids added in the last century creates a strong visual rhythm — you feel the pull of the old French architecture the moment you walk near the arches and courtyards.
During a visit to Paris with our grandsons, we waited in line for the Louvre with no luck, and ended up viewing the museum through its gates and porticos before heading to nearby galleries for our art fix. I still came away with striking scenes of the Louvre from the outside — the size of the building, the detail in the stone, and the geometry of the pyramids created a strong moment on their own.
